Beck and Greyson

I seem to be the only person that thinks Beck and Greyson look a lot alike as newborns.
Greyson definitely has chubbier cheeks, but I really think they look very similar.
Here are a few comparisons.
We didn't even mean to get this exact pose with both boys, but lucky for us, we did!

All I know is, I think my boys are adorable and I can't get enough of them!

Beck.

The beautiful images in this post are taken by Jalene!!

It is a special thing to watch your child growing up.
You have all these philosophies on how to raise a happy, independent, well-adjusted child.
consistency, discipline techniques, lots of love and positive reinforcement...
and then they turn two.

and everything that seemed to be working so well suddenly doesn't.
Suddenly they are no longer a baby and they have their own  opinions about how their life should be.

They get lots more energy, more independent, and sillier.
They start speaking their little mind, and get frusterated when they can't have their way.
They want to help, and they follow you around all day.
Their capacity to understand, and love, and give grows a lot too.

(age) Two is busy, and trying, but also very fun.
Beck has taken the transition to big brother well.
He has risen to the occasion and suddenly his vocabulary has skyrocketed.

He loves his baby brother and never misses a chance to give big hugs and kisses.
For some reason he is fascinated with his head.

He is pretty gentle, but doesn't understand that laying on top of him doesn't qualify as "soft"

I don't dare leave Greyson on the floor or couch with Beck around yet-
for fear that Beck will march right up and decide that he needs to be relocated.

Side story:
When Chase was two his mom caught him bouncing on top of a pillow on the couch,
with his brand new baby brother (Lincoln) underneath.
YIKES!
I guess if Lincoln made it out alive, Greyson has a shot right?

I can already tell that they are going to be best buds though.
Greyson has been giving smiles since his first week,
but the first and biggest smile goes to none other than his big brother Beck.
amazingly, I was right there with the camera to capture the grin.

Beck loves to play pretend, he loves to run around and jump
He loves this game where I sing a song about running in circles,
or jumping, or crawling, and then yell "FREEZE!"

He is pretty good at following directions, esspecially if there is something in it for him ;)
Beck loves the outdoors and always finds special treasures
..sticks, rocks, leaves...

He has made no real attempt at counting or singing his ABC's,
but can identify all of his numbers and most of his letters.
He also is facinated with shapes and has picked up all of their names.
He loves to put two triangle blocks together to make a square.
He also loves puzzles!

Ever since we started talking about baby Greyson coming home,
Beck has been infatuated with momma's and babies.
Now EVERYTHING that is little is a baby.
If he won't eat his sandwich, break off a bite and call it a baby sandwhich and he will eat it.
The other day while we were out with Grandma he saw this little lamb toy.
He still LOOOOVES bunnies and thought this lamb was a bunny.
He got so excited when he saw this "baby bunny" that once
Grandma let him hold it there was no taking it away.
He has been carrying around his baby bunny for days.
I'm sure his original bunny is quite jealous

Beck also loves animals.
We went to the farm/petting zoo with Grandma and Jalene the other day and he was in heaven!
He loved the chicks, but the baby goats were his favorite!
Just like with Greyson, he is fully confident in his abilities and kept trying to pick them up.

Every night when Chase gets home from work
he and Beck still have their basketball practice

Those two are such buds, I love it.

I sure love my little boy.
Up until now, I have looked at him as my baby.
Now that he is a big brother I realize that he will be the oldest, and leader of the kids in our family.
He is so loving, I know he will be a great example to his siblings.

Excuse the complaints, please

In addition to the normal full-term pregnancy aches and pains
I just came down with a cold of some sort.
Beck has had it for the last week and it made him pretty miserable.
You never like to see your usually happy boy so grumpy.

I was crossing my fingers that I didn't catch it
but today I woke up achy and stuffy and it has progressed throughout the day.
ick.
My sister Tiffini has given me strict orders.
"Drink so much water that you feel like you want to throw up if you take another sip"
check.
Proof? I have LITERALLY had to pee every 30 min or less.
"Eat lots of fruits and veggies"
Check and check.

Spinach/chicken salad for dinner two nights in a row
Spinach/fruit smoothie for lunch
"REST as much as possible"
I have really tried today.
But it was 82 Degrees and the sunshine beckoned us to the park
"Load up on Vitamin C"
uhhh...that one I haven't quite done...
"Treat yourself to some delicious dark chocolate"
check.  Except I might have made that order up.
hee hee
I just really, REALLY don't want to go into labor while sick-
or come home with a newborn being sick.
It would just be terrible.
Cross your fingers for me huh?
and send any other tips you might have this way.
muchas gracias.

39 weeks

On a happier note,
We are SO excited for baby brother to make his debut.
Beck has been obsessed with pointing out Momma's and Babies lately
He knows what stuff around the house is for baby
-not really sure how, I guess he's just intuitive.
We were talking to him about babies about a month ago and told him that newborn babies:
sleep a lot,
cry a lot,
we have to be very gentle with them, etc. etc.
and then they grow and we can play with them.
Now EVERY time he sees a baby (or toddler for that matter)
he announces that they are a baby, and then asks if they are going "night night"
It is actually pretty hilarious that he never forgot.
I have no doubt that he is going to be a super sweet big brother
case in point:

...his sweetness towards "Bunny, "Teddy", and Penny"
I just hope he handles the divided attention from mom and dad alright.
Luckily Mimi (my mom)  is arriving soon,
YAY!!
and then at the beginning of April, Grandma and Uncle Lincoln and Aunt Jalene are coming.
YAY again!!
Heck, with all that extra attention from them he will be in heaven!

I think all the excitement will do him some good actually.
I feel like he is bored lately.
An example:
The other day I left the room for 1.5 minutes and came out to this:

He had learned how fun it was to sip his milk and then blow it out of his mouth.
All down his shirt,
all over the kitchen floor,
all over the lower cabinets,
and also,
all over the dog.

I thought it was a reeeeeealy cute trick ;)

A birthday tale told by Beck

"Why turning 2 is great"
by Beck James Taylor

On March 1, I turned "TWOOOO"
Momma and Daddy made the day extra special
but really, I'm pretty easy to please at this age.

When I woke up, they greeted me with my favorite thing in the world.
A BALLOON!
But then much to my surprise,
I walked out of my room and saw a room FULL of balloons!
I. was. in.  heaven.

When you are two, you have lots of energy.
So I spent the next fifteen minutes running and jumping and kicking those balloons.

Then it was time for presents!
Again, I am easy to please.

Mom and Dad know me so well and got me my other favorite thing.
BUBBLES!

After catching as many bubbles as I could in a five minute span,
I played with BALLOONS some more!

But the fun didn't stop there,
race tracks, bikes...thats big boy fun!

I also got two more of my favorite books!
My friends, I was beyond thrilled.

When you are two,
you have lots of opinions about what to eat.
and when it is your birthday,
your parents will give you crazy things for a 8:00 am snack.
My opinion today was that I reeeeally wanted a pickle!

and then of course,
I went back to doing typical two year old things:
like jumping.
Mom says she is either a really cool
or irresponsible mom for letting me jump straight to my bum from the couch.
I'll admit I enjoyed it more once she put the pillows down for me.

By mid morning, I took my third stroll on my new bike.
I love taking that helmet on and off too.

Don't be deceived by the seriousness of my face-
each ride is a joy.

After lunch and naps and balloons and lots more running and jumping,
Mom and I met up with some friends to enjoy our 70 degree sunny weather at the park.

There were lots of sticks to hunt, bridges to jump on, and of course,
I pointed out my favorite pieces of nature to mom.
"moon!  rocks!   skicks!  leaf!  tees!  gass!  more skicks!  moon again!!"

You would think a two year old would be pooped and cranky after all this excitement.
Not so though, not for Beck.
My friend Buzz needed lots of help flying around the room today
so that kept me busy as well.

FINALLY Daddy got home and we partied some more.
I knew exactly how to blow out the candles,
and warned mom and dad that it was "Hot Hot!"

 Mom's belly served me cake.
(speaking of which: they keep telling me that that belly is my baby brother,
but I've yet to see any actual babies)

I picked off each sprinkle, announced its color, and ate it individually.
true story folks.

Even after all that excitement, I managed to skype with lots of people that I love,
read some books with Daddy,
momma came in for kisses and prayers,
and I cuddled with bunny all night long.
It was a great birthday.
I think I'll stay two for awhile.
