the one where Penny saves the day

Our dog is a hero!  It really could have been disastrous, but no, our trusty dog came to the rescue. So here's the story.

I ran inside to grab something real quick and left the car running.  Beck and Penny were both in the car.  When I got back out to the car (roughly 30 seconds later) I realized the doors were locked.  Car on? check. Beck awake? check.  Penny whining? check.  I don't usually cuss but-"crap".

Besides that, I was supposed to be somewhere very soon.  It wasn't long before Beck started crying.  Penny sensed something was wrong and was whining at me through the windows.  Then I got an idea!  I coaxed Penny over to the Passenger window and started calling her name and tapping on the glass.  (This also placated Beck for a little while)  Of course she got all stressed out trying to figure out a way to get out to come to me.  It only took a few seconds of this before she stepped on the automatic unlock button and voila! She unlocked the doors for me!  HERO dog!

Thanks Penny, you're the best.

P.S.  Abby was actually on her way with a spare key when Penny unlocked the door.  That part makes the story a little less exciting though doesn't it?  I still appreciated Abby.  She was a hero too.

cinco!! (months)

Our little Beck is five months old!

It seems like every month mark he has a growth spurt.
He always seems to hit some developmental milestones on his month birthday exactly.
This month he rolled over from back to tummy and got two teeth on August 1!

Also this month he:
mastered rolling both directions
learned to "inch" wherever he wants to go
found his feet, and loves to suck on his piggys, and
settled into a more predictable napping routine (YAY!)
tried rice cereal for the first time (yesterday)

Beck is still our happy boy-so willing to give a smile.
We have all kinds of nicknames for him.
Chase calls him "Budly Boofer" or "my little guy", or "my little man".
I call him "sweet boy" or "chico banano"

This month Beck and Penny decided they are best friends.
He gets huge grins and smiles whenever she walks by.
His first "scooting" was when he was trying to get to Penny.
If Beck wakes from a nap fussing, Penny is already at the door trying to get in by the time I get there.
The other day Penny, me, and Beck were napping on the bed
and Penny settled right in at Beck's feet and layed her head on his legs.

Last night we tried feeding Beck rice cereal.
I was planning to wait until 6 months but I could tell he was ready.
It was like he had done it a hundred times.
He opened his mouth wide for the spoon, closed, "chewed", swallowed, and opened for more.
It was the cutest thing!

We just got him this little jumper and he thinks it is the funnest thing!
He is a wiggle worm so its nice to have a place where he can release some energy.

We love our little guy so much!

The other day as I was doing some closet organizing Penny followed me in and made a little home.
She's been whining at the closet door for the last couple of days hoping to return to her little cave.

This cowboy and Indian are in love.
Is this not the CUTEST baby you've ever seen! A couple weeks ago I got to babysit my niece Tayler in Salt Lake. It was so much fun. She is such a doll.

big green monster

So today there was a MONSTER clinging on to my curtains.
I tried to ignore it but it kept edging its way closer and closer to me.
Usually when there is a spider or something I will kill it if Chase isn't home.
But this thing was more of the size of a bird than an insect so I didn't dare try to get it myself.

Finally I put our hunter up to the job.
I put Penny on the windowsill and she was up to the task!
After 3 bats with her paw and one gulp,
she grabbed the whole thing in one bite!
Thanks for saving the day Penny!
This is our favorite trick. She'll stay like this forever unless we tell her she's done!

The cutest dog ever

We have had Penny for almost 3 weeks now and we are just as happy now as when we first got her. We had a lot of people tell us that we were crazy for wanting a dog and that she'd be a big pain but so far we've loved it! We studied up on training techniques because we really want to make sure that she is obedient and likable. Also, she doesn't shed because she has hair instead of fur-this also means that she doesn't have dog dander (which is what some people are allergic to) and it takes longer for her to start smelling like a dog.

Surprisingly, she has learned so much so fast! She already knows the basic commands (sit, lay down, roll over) and a few tricks also. We are doing the crate training thing to house train her. This is the part that I am most excited about! We had a breakthrough this weekend on the house-training! When she has to go she just walks right over to the door and looks at us. Cool huh! We are proud parents! Now if only we can get her to consistantly sleep through the entire night without whining to go out.

She got a cute little bandana when we got her groomed at Petsmart
